Over 35.5 Million Visitors in 2024 Set the Stage for Digital Immigration Overhaul
Thailand’s tourism sector recorded a sharp rise in 2024, welcoming over 35.54 million international visitors a significant 26.27% increase from the previous year. This surge, driven by relaxed entry rules and visa exemption policies, has positioned Thailand to aim for 40 million tourists in 2025.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) to Replace TM6 Form
To manage the growing influx, Thai authorities will roll out the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) starting May 1, 2025. This new digital system will permanently replace the traditional TM6 paper form, transitioning to a fully electronic process for all non-Thai nationals entering via air, land, or sea.
The TDAC will be mandatory for all foreign visitors, regardless of their visa status. It must be completed online via the official portal within 72 hours before arrival, and travelers will receive a digital or printed confirmation to show at immigration.
Simplifying Entry and Strengthening Border Security
Authorities say the TDAC is designed to streamline the immigration process, minimize wait times, and enhance border security. The move aligns Thailand with global travel practices, similar to Singapore’s SG Arrival Card and Europe’s upcoming ETIAS. The TDAC will be completely free of charge.
However, travelers are warned that failure to comply could result in delays or additional screening upon arrival.
Travel Industry Responds with Early Implementation
Airlines, hotels, and travel operators have already started informing guests about the new requirement. The TDAC simplifies repeat visits by removing the need to fill out the same forms each time, offering a more convenient travel experience.
Experts recommend submitting the TDAC as soon as travel plans are confirmed to avoid last-minute issues, especially with the strict enforcement beginning in May.
Thailand Gears Up for 2025 With Global Awareness Campaign
Riding on the success of its 2024 tourism strategy, Thailand is launching an international awareness campaign to promote the TDAC. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is working closely with embassies and airlines to ensure travelers are well-informed ahead of the policy’s rollout.
